How We Set These Ranges

Every range on these pages comes from published contractor price pages read in September 2026: Ottawa and Ontario vendors, and a few national ones. We use a range only where more than one published source gave figures for the same job (three or four for most of them; two for the general removal range) and our research did not mark the figures as too thin, we never name a vendor, and we label every figure as a published estimate, not a quote. Where fewer sources published a price (per-sample lab fees, small-job minimum charges, mould inspection, mould remediation and lead paint), we say so and give no number.
A per-material figure always sits beside the general range for asbestos removal, about $8 to $15 per square foot, because the published per-material ranges and the general range come from different sources and do not nest inside each other.
The Type lines
The "which Type is my job?" finders quote Ontario Regulation 278/05, section 12, word for word, from the current consolidation on e-Laws. Section 12 lists what counts as a Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 operation. We show the lines that can apply to each material, and the finder marks the ones that fit your answers. We do not decide the Type of your job: whether a material is friable, how much is disturbed and how it will be removed are assessed on site by the contractor, and the regulation provides a way to settle a disagreement about the classification through a Ministry of Labour inspector.
What we left out
We give no figures for anything we could not source: no price differences between neighbourhoods, no typical job sizes, and no claims about what most jobs cost. We are a matching service, not an abatement company, and we do not screen or verify contractors.
