What to Check Before You Hire

  • Which Type (1, 2 or 3) the asbestos work falls under in O. Reg. 278/05, in writing (there is no company licence for asbestos abatement in Ontario)
  • For Type 3 work: who notifies the Ministry of Labour inspector, the workers' and supervisor's asbestos abatement training, and who does the clearance air test
  • A current WSIB clearance, which you can search online
  • A written contract with the scope, price and dates; if you sign at home, your 10-day cancellation right under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002
  • Where the asbestos waste is going, and that the disposal site has agreed to accept it
  • We do not screen or verify contractors, so check these yourself before you sign
